Vidauban is a hangover from our last trip, a bouldering site near Uncle Guy’s (near Le Plan-de-la-Tour, Fr.) that we never got around to visiting before. Consequently, it seemed like a must-do in between sport trips, and besides at least one of us had a rager for a bit more bloc.
The site is a genuine juxtaposition of a place... The hectic autoroute buzzes like wasps just below this still, tranquil hill; big, rounded earthy red boulders are warm against the cool azure sky and fresh new tree growth. It is a beautiful place to wander, and this is lucky as it was too hot to climb hard, maybe over 30˚C, so we mostly bimbled. The climbing we did do was hard, on rough rock, but enjoyable; there are lots of routes all indicated by arrows and the guide from t’internet is pretty awesome, very comprehensive. The guys who opened this spot have done a really neat job.
Encore, Vidauban! Perhaps in February or sometime cooler, though.
Having the heat cranked right up at Vidauban rocks... Sweat-festing!
